About this track

Composed by Bill Berry, the group’s drummer, and arranged by John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Everybody Hurts is an unmissable track on R.E.M.’s discography.

The motif, played on the guitar in arpeggio, is formed of two chords: D major and G major. The rate of the eighth notes remains the same throughout the extract, which means you can just focus on the chord progression to start with.

The group’s guitarist, Peter Buck, plays this piece with a pick. Despite this, you can play the whole thing with your fingers, if you feel more comfortable with this technique.

Once you’ve correctly worked out the movements of your left hand with these chords, you should then start working on the rate of your eighth notes using the Guitar Pro metronome.

Happy practicing!
