Guitar Pro for iOS, now compatible with Guitar Pro 7

Guitar Pro for iOS, now compatible with Guitar Pro 7

We’ve updated our iOS app. This new version is now compatible with Guitar Pro 7. Let’s take a look at what’s new in Guitar Pro 1.8.0.

You can now:

  • Open Guitar Pro 7 files (.gp format)
  • Export the compositions made on the NotePad into Guitar Pro 7 format
  • Get new icon and color changes in the interface that match the Guitar Pro 7 design

New look for the Guitar Pro 7 app

To visually mark the new compatibility of the mobile app with Guitar Pro 7, the application icon and interface colors have been changed. The Guitar Pro 6 red is replaced by the Guitar Pro 7 blue. Your favorite music scores (available in the File Library) are also more visible as they’re identified with a yellow star.

Compatibility with Guitar Pro 7

> Music scores library
You can now hear and read your Guitar Pro 7 files in the app. This application is a complete sheet-music and tablature player that allows you to open the following file formats:

  • Guitar Pro 3 .gp3
  • Guitar Pro 4 .gp4
  • Guitar Pro 5 .gp5
  • Guitar Pro 6 .gpx
  • Guitar Pro 7 .gp
  • PowerTab .ptb

This app is the perfect tool for learning, practicing, and playing your favorite compositions and songs anywhere, anytime. Choose the notation mode for display (tablature, standard notation, or slash), add or hide the fretboard/keyboard, use the metronome and the visual countdown, change the tempo, transpose your piece by half-tones.

> NotePad tool

You can use the NotePad tool to write up a riff idea or a melody. It is now possible with this update to export your composition into .gpx and .gp formats (Guitar Pro 6 and 7) and later carry on with your song in Guitar Pro for Windows or Mac.

The NotePad tool allows you to create a single-track tablature for guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, and mandolin in your application. Customize the tuning (3- to 8-string instruments), the tempo, the sound (19 sounds available) and find all of the usual musical symbols pertaining to the guitar and to other stringed instruments.

This version also includes some bug fixes and improvements to bring you the very best of the Guitar Pro experience.

An update for the Android version will come next. Download it today from the AppStore or Google Play!

How to update your Guitar Pro application

  • Open the App Store and tap Updates.
  • Find the Guitar Pro application and tap Update.
  • If asked, enter your Apple ID password. The update will download and install.

You’ve broken the sound clips. I have over 50 files, all of which have been written with “distorted guitar” Now when I open them they’ve defaulted to “nylon guitar” which means I have to manually change each one before playing. To add insult to injury, my change isn’t saved, so I have to select “distorted guitar” EACH TIME I OPEN A FILE! C’mon guys!!!!!

It’s a pretty good app. But as someone who doesn’t own a PC it’s my main means of tabbing out music. It would be great to have some extra notation for notes (i:e show volume swells, add grace notes, pre-bends, etc.). Any chance…….

  4. Thomas Duflos - March 6, 2018 at 8:55 am

Hi Tim and thank you. I’m forwarding your request to our team. The app will be updated.

  5. Sem van Blerk - March 10, 2018 at 7:20 pm

It would be great to have the ability to write for more voices, in the IOS app. I understand you maybe want to stimulate people to also buy guitar pro 7. But that can easily be done by only giving the people with GP7 access to the multi voice functionality. I do most of my music writing work while on the road and then I seldom carry my MacBook with me…..

Guitar Pro 7 has been out for almost exactly a year and the official Android app is still incompatible. That’s… sad?

Come on guys, you can do it!

  7. Thomas Duflos - March 19, 2018 at 3:07 pm

Hi Sem, thank you for your suggestion, I’m forwarding it to our team. Thanks

  18. Marc - June 1, 2018 at 7:21 am

Looking forward to the 1.8 version for Android. I hope it won’t ask for a wireless connection when you want to create new music, unlike 1.5 does. I want to use it “mobile” and I do always have 4G but no wireless. 🙂

  19. Steven Meißner - June 6, 2018 at 10:44 am

    Hello Linda,

I talk about Android. Please make that we can open *.gp. There is still no update for Android. I don’t care about iOS.

Dear all , I love the program I have been using it for several years; but my eyes are tired after work when I want to use the program, please can you implement a “night mode” I’m sure is not a difficult thing, just reverse the colors and have black background with white notes, in desktop and mobile? If it’s there I couldn’t find it

  22. Matthew Parkins - June 18, 2018 at 5:55 pm

Is there a way to change time signature in the middle of a track? Can’t find it anywhere.

  23. linda - June 26, 2018 at 4:04 pm

    Hello Matthew,
To do so, select the place where you want to change the time signature (in the bar), right mouse button, click on Bar and Time signature.

    Thank you for your feedback.

  25. Aaron - July 11, 2018 at 1:36 am

This app is almost awesome however it desperatley needs multitrack editing. Atm Tux guitar is superior to the gpro app for composition. Please make this a thing thanks from a long time guitar pro customer and user.

  26. Patrick - July 21, 2018 at 7:37 am

It’s been more than five months since the iOS version was released. Any substantial news on the Android app?
Is there a GP7-compatible beta, at least, that I can sign up for, after buying the current version from Google Play?
    This is getting annoying.

  27. Thomas Duflos - July 30, 2018 at 9:59 am

Hi Patrick, the Android App has been updated, you can now open GP files. Thank you for your patience.

  28. Patrick - July 30, 2018 at 8:08 pm

the update is not available for me. I have already tried clearing the Play Store’s cache and data, as well as uninstalling Guitar Pro 1.5.8.
Is there anything else I might be doing wrong? Might I be living in the wrong country?

What I really would like to see is the ability to convert/export the score back to the notepad environment. In my case, I often start off with a bass line that I have build on my desktop and have exported it to my ipad. When I’m in a session with the rest of the band I would like to we able to tweak the bass line score at that time. Being able to export the score to notepad would allow me to do this.

  33. Thomas Duflos - February 19, 2019 at 9:53 am

Hi John, thank you for your suggestion. I have sent it to our dev team.

  34. Steffen - April 22, 2019 at 8:06 pm

Hello, I rally love the iPad app as a great tool for practicing. Unfortunately I found no way to tab my excercises for my 8 string guitar. I can choose e.g. Overdrive guitar and set the strings to 8; the fretboard is shown correctly and I can tab the notes – but letting it play only 6 strings can be heard… Could you please give me a hint how to set up note pad correctly in order to hear the 8 strings beeing used ?
    Thanks a lot!!!

  38. Thomas R - April 26, 2020 at 8:09 am

Staccato notes ( dot over the notes) , hammerons and slides doesnt seem to play back in the ios player. Is this just a limitation compared to the desktop version or a bug?

  40. Braylon Ashby - May 15, 2020 at 11:31 pm

Is this app just a one time payment of $6.99 on the iPhone or do I need some kind of subscription?

  41. Thomas Duflos - May 26, 2020 at 12:58 pm

Hi Braylon, this is a “one-time payment” indeed. No subscription is needed. Thanks
